Volkswagen Ball

Volkswagen Ball

My brain went “PS!” the moment I saw this picture (for the less aware, PS means photoshopped – where the photo was manipulated using Adobe’s software). “Bah, a very well-done spherize-filter or something.” It looks like I’d be eating the humble pie – because this seems to be the real deal – someone actually made a Volkswagen like a ball! Full respect for the audacious idea, and more for the execution.

Now if only this could really drive (it has no wheels) instead of just rolling around perhaps…

I’m sorry, but this image can’t be real. It looks like a 3D Render.
    How?
Look closely at the shadows. If you notice the bushes in the background, you’ll notice that the main light source is coming from the right. But you can tell on the ball there is a very large glare that’s actually on the left.
Also. This shot looks like it was outside. Which means there are a lot of reflective surfaces that would give a nice smooth, fairly even distribution all over the ball. But the bottom of the ball is pitch black where otherwise there would be some kind of rimlight given off by the grass behind it (Yes. Behind it.).
The shadow is also too dark – pitch black. Seeing as the light source should be coming from the right, the shadow should be much lighter. Plus there is more than one shadow, supposing several spot lights on it. This is hardly natural lighting. The shadow should also be very textured, seeing as it’s put on a grassy surface.
Mentioning the grass brings up one last final point: the ball should be settled in the grass. The ball in this image looks as though it is actually balancing on a single blade rather than the grass cupping around the ball like normal grass would do.

    Nice try.
    But no dice.

    Allas Reoji,

In spite of your elaborate comments this is an actual photo of an actual sculpture made by artist Lars-Erik Fisk.

Maybe next time you should give google a go before you start being all smart talking about grown-up stuff like shadows and reflections…:)
